Just before Our Lord ascended into Heaven, He told his listeners, "Go forth and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all that I have ever commanded you."
Although it was given to a few at the time, His final command is binding on all baptized souls until the end of the world. All Catholics have the mandate to bring the gospel to the world, especially lay Catholics.
In his 1975 apostolic exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi, Pope Paul VI reinforced Christ's commandment, declaring, "The presentation of the gospel message is not an optional contribution to the Church."
"It is the duty incumbent on her by the command of the Lord Jesus, so that people can believe and be saved," he continues, adding that the command is necessary and "cannot be replaced."
Priests and religious have specific roles to play in salvation history, but their roles are different from the laity. Laymen are in key positions to bring the kingdom of God into all aspects of society.
There is much evil these days, especially in politics; hence, many Catholics say they hate politics and want to avoid it as much as possible.
Communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky once said, "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you." That certainly is true for Catholics, especially since society is turning ever more against God and His laws.
Politics affects every man, woman and child. It doesn't matter if the politics are local, regional or national — it all matters. It's in the political arena where the great war for souls is being fought.
The Left is literally working like the Devil to implement the humanist and anti-God gospel. Ironically, it too is "going forth to teach all nations." Even bad Catholics like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and others are working hard in their evil endeavors.
It's up to each Catholic to seek out and understand how they can sanctify society. But whatever way that is, it's critical to our salvation. The Servant of God Fr. John Hardon once said, "Any Catholic who is not about the business of evangelization might never entertain a serious hope for the Beatific Vision."
